(Closed event)Health and Global Policy Institute Forum “Post 3.11 – Protecting disaster survivors’ health 3.5 years after the disaster–”
date : 8/23/2014

Three years have
passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake (3.11). In the face of a variety
of crisis by the disaster, some medical practitioners and representatives from
private-sector organizations stood up immediately with dignity to fight against
the situation. Many of them are persisted working towards the reconstruction,
but they are still far from recovery. Especially since lack of daily activity
declined due to isolation becoming significant problem among the elderly in the
affected areas. After 3.11, Health & Global Policy Institute (HGPI) has been
working together with a U.S. medical support organization called Project HOPE
in the reconstruction efforts such as Yamada-Machi in Iwate Prefecture to build
a strong relationship with the local stakeholders. This forum enabled discussion in constructing a sustainable action plan for the elderly support
through the knowledge and lessons learned by the domestic and international
stakeholders’ engagement.
