Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) Manager Ms. Yuko Imamura gave a lecture titled, “Expectations for Obstetrician-Gynecologists Active Throughout Japan from Public Opinion Survey Results” at the 18th Women’s Health Seminar hosted by the Japan Family Planning Association (JFPA; Chairperson: Kunio Kitamura).
During the lecture, Ms. Imamura shared results from “The Public Opinion Survey on Child-Rearing in Modern Japan,” which was presented by the HGPI Women’s Health Project in March 2022. The survey results showed there is room for improvement in health literacy throughout society on topics like women specific health concerns and fertility and infertility in men and women, as well as links between history of diagnosis and treatment for diseases like endometriosis and age of first gynecological examination and having children among people who want children. Ms. Imamura also introduced following four recommendations, which were shaped according to these results.
Perspective 1: Reinforce support to improve health literacy.
Perspective 2: Establish a system to improve access to gynecologists.
Perspective 3: Provide economic support to people who want to have children and advance work style reforms.
Perspective 4: Provide people with opportunities to interact with children and promote the creation of mechanisms for mutual support in communities.
After the lecture, an active group discussion and question-and-answer session was held with the audience of approximately 100 obstetrician-gynecologists, who participated remotely.
