Conference on Providing Ongoing Support to the Disaster Areas in Yamada Town, Iwate Prefecture

Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) visited Yamada town in Iwate Prefecture and the Iwate Prefecture government with Project HOPE, an international medical aid organization based in the United States, from the 12th to the 13th of March.
There were stakeholder exchanges in the meeting coordinated by HGPI.. Project HOPE had sent medical volunteers to the areas affected by the disaster and HGPI had coordinated a collaborative effort with domestic agencies. Project HOPE and Medtronic foundation made a contribution to rebuild a community hospital in Yamada town and had raised 30 billion yen as a donation. The opinion exchange meeting was held as a celebration of the reconstruction of the hospital, nearly complete after three years from the disaster. The representative from Iwate prefecture conveyed deep gratitude while the organizers from Project HOPE committed to continuing the project as a symbol of friendship between Japan and the United States.
