Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) Manager Mr. Shunichiro Kurita gave a lecture entitled, “A Social Prescription for Dementia Inclusivity and What We Can Do Right Now” during Symposium 1 of the 35th Meeting of the Japanese Psychogeriatric Society, “Inclusivity and Prevention in the New Policy Framework for Dementia – Promoting Early Detection and Diagnosis.”
In addition to sharing the results of the literature review included in the policy white paper on dementia presented by HGPI in 2017 entitled, “A Social Prescription for Dementia – Enabling Early Detection and Diagnoses through the Building of a Dementia-friendly Community,” Mr. Kurita presented the five following recommendations to guide dementia policy in the future.
■ Make persistent efforts to promote understanding of dementia
■ Build support systems that keep the period after diagnosis in view
■ Engage in community development with multi-stakeholders
■ Verify the effects of every initiative
■ Develop dementia policies at the local level under the leadership of local governments
